Professional Countertop Cleaning & Sealing Service
Atom Cleaning Co provides professional countertop cleaning and sealing across NJ, NY, and CT — for granite, marble, quartz, quartzite, soapstone, travertine, and laminate. We use material-specific cleaners (pH-neutral for stone, non-abrasive for engineered surfaces) to safely lift cooking oil, wine stains, hard water spots, and soap scum without damaging the finish. Optional penetrating sealer adds 1–3 years of protection against staining and etching on natural stone.
Why Professional Countertop Care Matters
- Natural stone (granite, marble, travertine) is porous — oil,
wine, coffee, and acid soak in within minutes if the sealer
has worn off - Common household cleaners (vinegar, bleach, Windex, lemon)
etch marble and dull granite finishes permanently - Sealer typically lasts 1–3 years on granite, 6–12 months on
marble — most homeowners forget to re-seal until damage shows - Professional cleaning + resealing costs a fraction of stone
restoration or replacement ($60–200 per linear foot to
replace granite)

Countertop Cleaning & Sealing FAQ
How do I know if my granite or marble countertop needs to be resealed?
Run the water test: drop a tablespoon of water on the stone. If it beads up, the sealer is still working. If it darkens the stone within 5 minutes, the sealer has worn off and the surface is absorbing liquid (and stains). Granite typically needs resealing every 1–3 years; marble every 6–12 months. We run this test during every visit at no charge.
Can you remove etching or dull spots from marble countertops?
Yes, in most cases. Etching (dull, light-colored spots from acid contact — lemon, wine, vinegar, tomato) is etched into the marble surface, not a stain. Light etching can be polished out with diamond pads and polishing compound. Deep etching may require professional honing and refinishing — we’ll assess what’s possible during a free inspection.
Do quartz countertops need to be sealed?
No. Engineered quartz (Caesarstone, Silestone, Cambria) is 90–93% ground quartz bound with resin — non-porous and stain-resistant by design. It never needs sealing. Quartz only needs cleaning with pH-neutral, non-abrasive products. Avoid bleach, hydrogen peroxide, and citrus cleaners — they can damage the resin binder.
What cleaning products should I never use on my stone countertops?
Avoid: vinegar, lemon juice, bleach, ammonia, glass cleaner (Windex), grout cleaner, bathroom tile cleaner, scouring powders (Comet, Ajax), and any “all-purpose” cleaner not labeled stone-safe. These either etch the stone or strip the sealer. Stick to pH-neutral stone cleaners or mild dish soap diluted in warm water — daily.
How long does the sealer take to dry, and when can I use the countertop?
Most penetrating sealers cure within 24 hours, but the countertop is safe for light use (placing items, dry cooking prep) within 1–2 hours after we leave. Avoid water, cooking oils, wine, and food contact for 24 hours for best protection. We’ll give you a specific timeline based on the sealer used.
